Batangas
Association UK |
BAUK - A Brief History
In 1993, a group of
like-minded individuals decided to formally form an organisation which would
unite the Batanguenos in the UK and provide them with an outlet for fellowships,
socials, and
sporting
activities. Chosen to lead the fledgling association during its formative
period was
Julian "Jun" Masilungan
of Rosario.
The first activities
of the association were a couple of parties to introduce the Batangas
Association UK
to
the Filipino community and recruit members. After BAUK was firmly
established in the London
community,
an outreach program for our less fortunate kababayans back in Batangas was
launched.
To fund these
various
projects, the very 1st Dinner and Dance was held at the London Marriott Hotel
on
October, 1994.
This annual affair
has become the main source of income for the association and on the 28th of
September 2007, we will be holding our 14th
dinner and dance.
In addition to the formal dinner and
dance, BAUK also has the annual Easter
Family Gathering and for 2007, it will be held on the 28th of
April at the Kensal Community Centre.
During the
summer of 2005, the very first UK Batangas Day was launched at the Sion Manning
Hall
wherein members
and non-members were invited to an afternoon of food, fun, games, entertainment,
and the chance to buy
goods from Batangas.
Through the years,
BAUK has sent books and funds for desks, tables, and repairs to public schools
in
the
province. It has also organised a medical mission which distributed
medicines to remote areas,
immunisation
for the elderly and donated medical equipment to local clinics. An ongoing
activity is the
Alay Pasko wherein
food hampers are distributed to our indigent kababayans.
BAUK
has decided to adopt
the Bahay Ampunan Foundation, Inc which is located in the city of Tanauan.
It
is a home for the homeless
elderly from all over the Philippines. We recently completed the
construction
of the Bahay's
perimeter fence which will provide security and protection to
the elderly. We have also
donated money and goods for the upkeep of the Bahay.
